I. GOAL CEPEW
· General goal :
To empower women to achieve gender equality and enhance women’s status at home and in society.
· Specific goals :
- To enhance girls and women’s knowledge and skills;
- To improve women’s access to resources;
- To mainstream women in community development programs.
II. MAIN TASKS:
· Conduct study programs on girls and women’s education needs;
· Provide training to enhance girls and women’s capability;
· Provide training to enhance gender awareness for male and female leaders at local levels and the local people as well;
· Develop and disseminate learning resources for women (and men also);
· Implement community - based projects to improve women quality of life;
· Cooperate with various organizations and individuals locally and internationally to achieve the objectives of CEPEW.
III. NETWORKING:
· As member organization of Gender and Community Development network (GenComNet), Cooperation Development Group (CDG), Vietnamese Non –governmental Organization Group for Community Development (VNGO Group).
· CEPEW has networking with national mass organizations and NGOs like Women’s Union, Farmer Association, Committee for Advancement of Women, Center for Family and Women Study, Center for Reproductive and Family Health, Center for Gender, Family and Environment, Center for Non - Formal Education, Research and Training Center for Community Development, Center for Women Labour Study, Rural Development Service Center etc.
· CEPEW has network with various ministries such as Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment etc.
· CEPEW also has cooperation with some international organizations such as the Asia Foundation, The Asia Pacific Bureau of Adult Education (ASPBAE), Embassy of the United State of America, Netherlands Embassy, Canadian Embassy, the Asian Center of PDA, CIDA, SIDA, NOVIB, ICCO, DED, AusAID, OXFAM UK, CECI, UNDP, Global Fund for Women, World Bank, ActionAID, Acadamy of Education Development (USA) etc.
IV. ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE:
1. Personnel: 7 full time staff, 3 part time staff and 15 collaborators.
2. Divisions:
CEPEW has three divisions:
- Division for research and training;
- Division for community - based project management, and
- Administration division.
3. Director of CEPEW:
Mrs. Vuong Thi Hanh, Doctor of Education
She was:
- Director of the Hanoi teacher’s training college
- Head of Personel and Organization Department of Ministry of Education and Training
- Vice president of Vietnam Women’s Union
Now she is:
- Director of CEPEW;
- A standing member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Association for Promoting and Supporting Educational Development (VIPASED);
- Chaireperson of GenComNet
- A standing member of VNGO Group, Cooperation and Development Group (CDG);
V. ACTIVITIES:
CEPEW’s staff has good experiences in training and project management. CEPEW has carried out various programs such as:
1. Capacity building for the contingent of staff and collaborators:
Annualy, CEPEW nominates its staff and collaborators to take part in national and international training courses and workshops in USA, Canada, Thailand, Bangladesh, Newzealand, Chine, Cambodia, Korea, Japan, etc.
2. Research programs:
· Research on girl's access to education:
· Research on leadership, political participation and decision making of women at all levels.
· Research on gender and public expenditures:
3. Programs on training and know -how transformation for girls and women:
- Vocational training for poor women and girls in rural area
- Small business skill training for rural women
· Building community learning centers and setting up cultural clubs for women at commune level aiming at providing knowledge, skills, information and sharing experience to girls and women (and men also).
4. Community - based development programs:
· Prevention of violence against women to exercise gender equality at the communities and grassroots. The program has been carried out in Lao Cai, Ha Tay, Quang Ninh and Nam Dinh provinces… since 2000.
· Prevention of trafficking in women and children. The program has been carried out in Quang Ninh, An Giang and Bac Giang provinces since 2003.
- Economic empowerment of poor rural women. The program has been carried out in Ha Tay, Quang Ninh and Nam Dinh provinces… since 1999.
- Raising democracy participation of women and men in community activities. The program has been implemented in Ha Tay, Hai Duong, Bac Giang, Thanh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, Nam Dinh, Bac Ninh and Binh Thuan …since 2001.
- Promoting the role of women and their participation in communal budgeting process in Thai Nguyen province in 2006.
- Eliminatiing illiteracy of the indigenous poor women. The project has been implemented in Yen Bai province since 2005.
5. Programs on raising knowledge and skills for key leaders at local levels
- Raising gender awareness for male and female leaders at district and communal levels. The program has been implemented in Ha Tay, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Quang Ninh, Phu Tho provinces since 1999.
- Strengthening leaderships skills for men and women leaders at local levels. The programs has been implemented in Quang Binh, Cao Bang, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tay, Nam Dinh... provinces since 1999.
- Strengthening capicity for deputies of People’s Councils. The program has been implemented in Dak Nong, Bac Kan, Tra Vinh, Bac Giang provinces since 2000.
